Shopping for a new mattress can be a frustrating and daunting process. When choosing a mattress,  lots of considerations come into play – material composition, price, comfort and other factors. Lots of research is required – whether through good ol’ Google or recommendations – no easy feat. Especially when you consider the hundreds of brands hawking their wares online, and in traditional brick-and-mortar stores.
But first things first – is it time for you to be even shopping for a new mattress? If you’re unsure that your bed needs a refresh, check the mattress after about seven years. In general, most would have lost some of their initial properties and therefore affecting your sleep.
Other factors that may drive you to the shops are –
  1. Waking up with aches and pains.
  2. Constant tossing and turning.
  3. The mattress is beginning to show signs of sagging and deep indents.
  4. You just simply want an upgrade.
  5. There’s a can’t-be-missed-sale you heard of!
And although many factors affect the lifespan of a mattress. Some mattress types are less susceptible to wear and tear, like latex and airbeds.

Editor’s note: after a week’s trial on the medium-density firmness of the Heveya 100% organic latex mattress (along with a soft and a medium density pillow), the verdict is that this particular latex mattress is ultra comfortable, super silent and extremely cool in our tropical weather, even without the air-con on. I got a sound sleep from the first night and found my self tossing a lot less. I also woke feeling a lot more refreshed than I did with my old ten year old spring-coil mattress. Perhaps it’s because it’s new. This post will be updated as the years go on.
